A five month old infant is in stable condition after authorities say the child suffered beatings at the hands of his father.
LaPorte County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to IU Health LaPorte Hospital on Saturday. There they learned the child, described as a five-month-old boy, was receiving medical treatment for internal injuries to his head and spinal cord.
The infant was flown to a medical facility in Michigan to receive additional treatment for his injuries.
Investigators interviewed the child’s father, 24-year-old Cody Gnodtke, about the moments leading up to the incident. He allegedly admitted to authorities that he battered the child prior to Thanksgiving, and during a second incident on January 23rd.
Gnodtke was taken into custody and is facing felony charges of Aggravated Battery, Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury, and Neglect of a Dependant. His first appearance in the case will take place on Wednesday with bond set at $25-thousand.
According to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, Gnodtke posted bond and was released on Sunday.
