Knox Officials Announce 50/50 Sidewalk Guidelines

The City of Knox will split the cost of sidewalk repairs with business and residential property owners who take part in the annual 50/50 sidewalk replacement program.

The City of Knox is once again offering business and homeowners a chance to take part in the 50/50 sidewalk replacement program. The mayor’s office will accept requests on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are exhausted.

After a request is received, the street superintendent will measure and inspect it and either approve or disapprove the work order. Once a bid is awarded to the contractor, the property owner will be notified of the cost. Half of the property owner’s share must be paid to the city before construction can begin. City officials say the property owner’s share must be paid within 14 days of notification for the project to continue. If not, it will be placed on the bottom of the work schedule.

Once the work is finished, the street superintendent will make a final inspection and approve payment to the contractor. Applications are due to city hall by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 29th.

That’s also the deadline for contractors interested in doing sidewalk replacements to register with the city. Only contractors who register will be given the opportunity to bid on the residential and business sidewalk replacements as part of the program. City officials note they must provide proof of insurance. Contractors will be paid once projects are completed.
