KVREMC Raises a Million Dollars Through Operation Round Up

The Kankakee Valley REMC Operation Round Up program has now raised over a million dollars for local nonprofit groups. Since 2000, REMC members have had the option to round their electric bills up to the next dollar, with that extra money going into a trust, set up to support worthy causes in local communities.

According to a KVREMC press release, members taking part in the program end up donating between $6 and $12 a year, and with over 70 percent of members participating, that money has added up. The million dollars raised over the past 16 years has gone to help schools, food pantries, domestic violence shelters, and other groups and individuals. KVREMC says all the Operation Round Up funds are returned to the community, since the trust is run by local volunteers who donate their time to distribute the money.
