Pulaski County Makes 2016 Meeting Audio Available Online

Pulaski County CourthouseIt took two tries, but Pulaski County is hoping to make their board discussions easier to access online.

Audio recordings of all Pulaski County Commissioners, Council, and Joint Session meetings in 2016 were published to the county’s website on Tuesday. In previous conversations, the County Commissioners said they wanted to increase transparency and allow the public an opportunity to hear their proceedings without physically attending the courthouse on a typical Monday evening.

The Board of Commissioners’ first attempt to provide the service was shot down in a vote. Commission President Terry Young indicated he would prefer the county’s ordinances first be put online. Work is being undertaken by the county’s attorney to ensure the ordinances are fit to publish online.

The second attempt to provide the service succeeded after it was determined a simple mp3 file was sufficient to place on the county’s website. Commissioner Bud Krohn, Jr. voted against the measure on the second attempt.

While there is no set time frame to place the audio online following a meeting, Commissioner Larry Brady says publishing the latest meeting within one week would be preferable.

Now that 2016’s meetings are up-to-date, Pulaski County will begin work to publish meetings dating back to 2012: the oldest recordings currently in the county’s possession.
