Suspect Apprehended Following Car Chase, Foot Pursuit in LaPorte County

LaPorte County authorities were able to match a vehicle to a potential fugitive, but further investigation only created more problems.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in Michigan City on Tuesday. A Pontiac G6 was spotted matching the description of a vehicle thought to be driven by an individual LaPorte County authorities were tracking. Back-up units were notified.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, but according to information provided by the LaPorte Couty Sheriff’s office, the car allegedly fled police. The chase took place on several streets, but came to a stop after the vehicle was unable to make a proper turn. The Pontiac was described as jumping the curb and crashing into a cemetery fence.

A foot chase occurred following the crash. According to the police report, two small plastic baggies were allegedly thrown out of the suspects’ pockets during the incident. Ultimately, the perpetrator, identified as 19-year-old Jalen Wilson of Michigan City, was apprehended.

Investigators say Wilson was wanted on a probation violation warrant and a newly issued warrant for a felony domestic battery incident. Officers were able to locate the plastic bags, the contents of which tested positive for cocaine and heroin.

Wilson is facing new charges of Dealing Cocaine, Dealing a Scheduled Narcotic, Possession of Marijuana, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash.
