April Color Run To Support Starke County K-9

An event coming up at the end of April is looking to support the Starke County K-9 Drug Unit.

The 4-H Color Me Green run/walk will take place at Wythogan Park in Knox on April 30th, and is designed to promote healthy lifestyles and activities in the Starke County community. Funds raised will benefit the Starke County Sheriff’s Department in a few ways.

Annette Warkentien is part of the Yellow River 4-H club. She says her troop decided to support this cause through a vote of its members.

“They thought it was a fantastic idea,” says Warkentien. “And they have been all out supporting it and they want to support it and get involved in it.”

The 4-H Council has also decided to support the Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Drug Unit through the color run/walk event this year.

he decisions for how to spend the donations will ultimately be determined by the Sheriff’s Department. Medication, vaccinations, food, and general care for the animals are considered quite expensive. In addition, the dogs may be in need of bulletproof vests during their regular duties combating drug-related crimes in the community.

Total support for the K-9 Unit will be tallied upon completion of the April 30th event.
