Fireworks Fundraiser Planned, Parade Forms Available at Mayor’s Office

Plans are shaping up for the Independence Day celebration in downtown Knox. A parade down Main Street into Wythogan Park on Saturday, July 2nd will kick off the day of events leading up to the county fireworks display. Mayor Dennis Estok and the Knox City Council have opted to move them from the airport to the park this year.

Parade applications are available at city hall for anyone who would like to have a float or vehicle and can be picked up during business hours.

The first of three fundraisers to offset the cost of the fireworks display is a paddle party tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 1 at the Knox VFW. Next up is a port-a-pit chicken fundraiser on Saturday, May 7th at the south side fire station on Heaton Street. The final fundraiser is a fish fry at the Knox Moose Lodge on Friday, May 27th.

The Knox VFW recently donated $500 to the fireworks committee, and the Hamlet Town Council approved a $500 contribution at their meeting this week. Any other business or individual who would like to contribute can contact the mayor’s office at 574-772-4553.
