Knox Anticipates Additional Blight Elimination Grant Demolitions

City_of_Knox_LogoThe City of Knox will be able to demolish at least eight run-down houses with blight elimination grant funds. Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council Tuesday night the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority has approved four additional houses as part of the program. He doesn’t have a timeline yet for when they will be torn down. IHCDA requires the first demolition be scheduled and documented as part of the grant process. From there Estok says the rest of the removals should go quickly.

The Knox Board of Works recently awarded a demolition contract for the first four houses to Hebron-based Chem Check, Inc. Utilities to the properties have been disconnected.

Estok would like to tear down two more houses before closing out the grant. He told the city council he’s not sure if there’s time to get the demolitions approved.
