Thursday Kicks-off Motorcycle Safety and Education Campaign

Motorcyclists gather for the ride

May happens to be Motorcycle Awareness Month in the Hoosier State and it gives state officials an opportunity to improve safety.

Both the Indiana Governor Mike Pence and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles participated in a ride in Indianapolis on Thursday. Motorcycle Awareness month attempts to educate motorcyclists proper riding techniques and safety, but also looks to educate other motorists sharing the roadway about the potential safety pitfalls while driving near motorcycles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says more than 4,500 motorcyclists were killed in 2014. While that’s a decrease, the deaths accounted for 14-percent of all traffic fatalities across the nation.
