Culver Counts StellarFest a Success

culverThe Culver Town Council spent time reviewing the first ever “StellarFest” during their Tuesday meeting.

Members of the public were invited to join representatives of the Town to learn about the Town’s application as an Indiana Stellar Community. The program is run through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and provides planning and grant application assistance.

To raise awareness about the possible designation, the Town rode the coattails of the Taste of Culver event on Saturday, bringing engineering designs and other information to the site. Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe says things went well during the event.

“I think everything that was planned went very well,” says Munroe. “The maps that Troyer Group brought were great. People had good questions, the flyer that we handed out I think was informative and I think a lot of people learned about Stellar that day which was fantastic.”

Culver was named one of three finalists in the small population category for the “Stellar Community” designation. A site visit by officials with the state is planned for July 21st where a presentation and tour of the community will be given.

Culver has spent months developing a list of projects in need of improvement and tracking down local sources of funding that will cooperate on the effort.

According to Town officials on Tuesday night, StellarFest created some positive energy around the venture. Munroe says a wall was available for residents to tell the town what Culver means to them.

“It was really cool to see what people wrote, and that’s going to be incorporated into the presentation that everyone’s been working on,” says Munroe. “It was just kind of a feel good event to know that people had something very positive to say.”

The Town of Culver is preparing to submit phase two of the application for the Stellar Communities designation which is a Strategic Investment Plan.

An announcement of the winner is anticipated later this year.
