Rural LaPorte County Woman Dead Following Crash

A Monday morning crash has resulted in the death of the car’s driver.

LaPorte County authorities were called to County Road 200 East south of State Road 4 around 6:50 a.m. According to an incident report, a 2004 Hyundai Sonata was found overturned in a field several hundred feet from the roadway by a passerby when authorities were called.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Norma Vermette of rural LaPorte County, was ejected from the vehicle according to investigators. Officers noted the driver appeared to have been deceased for some time before officers arrived on scene.

This is the second fatal crash in the same location within one year. No other vehicles are thought to be involved in the crash.

A report of the incident says the Sonata was traveling North on County Road 200 East when she failed to properly navigate a curve in the roadway. The car traveled off the road and rolled several times before coming to a rest on its side.

Vermette was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, and investigators say the car was traveling over the posted speed limit.

The results of a toxicology test are pending review, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department.
