Progress Continues in Moving Starke County Forward Summer Challenge

movingstarkeforwardStarke County residents continue making progress on this year’s Moving Starke County Forward walking challenge. So far, 143 participants have logged over 6,300 miles as part of “Starke County Walks to the Moon,” according to the organization.

In the team category, the Toto Trekkers are in the lead with a total of 2,438 miles. They’re followed by C & C Services with 1,215 miles and the Starke County Community Foundation’s Moon Walkers at 528 miles.

James Skibbe has the most miles individually at over 205, while Arlene Noble has just under 200. Just behind them are Phil Brown and Ron Gifford with about 170 miles each.

Moving Starke County Forward was formed in 2012 to improve the health of local residents. As part of the effort, community members are encouraged to walk, run, bike, or take part in any physical activity of their choice. Participants can then log their miles for a chance to win prizes.

The first giveaway of the summer took place in June, when participants were entered into a drawing to win a Fitbit Flex. Last week, Moving Starke County Forward announced that the winner of that drawing was Brandy Szynalski, a North Judson resident and member of the Toto Trekkers.

The organization says there’s still plenty of time for more community members to join in the challenge, which runs through late August. For more information, visit Moving Starke County Forward’s Facebook page.
