Starke County added to the list of Indiana bicentennial projects this weekend.

Throughout the state’s 92 counties, white fiberglass bison sculptures are being placed around individual counties, to be highlighted on the 200th anniversary torch route. The “bison-tennial” public art project, as it’s being called, is designed to celebrate Indiana’s history and can be painted to reflect a local area’s unique history and culture.

Starke County received a fiberglass bison to be hosted at the Knox Depot on Sunday. The sculpture will be displayed until the official statehood day on December 11th according to a press release.

The sculptures were required to have a sponsor. In Starke County, the United Way and the Starke County Community Foundation combined resources to bring the bison sculpture to the local area.
