Indiana Conservation Officers have released the name of the man who drowned in Hudson Lake Sunday morning. Howard Fetterer, 71, of New Carlisle was recovered from eight feet of water about 100 feet from shore, after a one-hour search.

A witness told responders that Fetterer fell out of his fishing boat and went underwater around 7:00 a.m. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says Fetterer was not wearing a personal floatation device, although his fishing boat was equipped with them.

In addition to Indiana Conservation Officers, New Carlisle Police, Volunteer Fire Department, and EMS also responded to the incident, along with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department and LaPorte EMS.

Conservation Officers and the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate. However, investigators believe the drowning may have been caused by a known medical condition.

Indiana Conservation Officers remind residents to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal floatation device whenever they are on or near waterways.
