Election Board Requests Francesville Early Voting Site

Pulaski County CourthousePulaski County will be adding an early voting site in the western portion of the county leading up to November’s General Election.

Early voting and the vote center model were planned carefully heading into May’s primary election, but following its use, additional data was gathered for changes in November.

Pulaski County Election Board member Laura Bailey says they hope it will better serve voters in future years.

“We wondered and got feedback that a west side of the county site might be useful,” says Bailey. “Rather than fund one the entire time, we want to try it on the two Saturday’s that we’re open with one machine.”

The Election Board during Monday night’s Pulaski County Commissioner’s meeting proposed hosting it at the Francesville Public Library to serve individuals that would otherwise be inconvenienced by voting on Election Day.

Typically, satellite offices for early voting are required to be open at least two Saturdays before an election takes place, and Pulaski County would be no different.

Bailey says there is a formal process that needs to be executed in order to update the plan.

“We are asking for a resolution authorizing that as an additional vote center satellite,” says Bailey.

Pulaski County’s voter turnout during the May primary election topped 40-percent according to the Election Board.

The Pulaski County Commissioners granted the Election Board the ability to open the early voting site in Francesville.
