A flood warning is in effect for much of the WKVI listening area until mid-afternoon. Areas covered by the warning from the National Weather Service include Starke, Northwestern Marshall, Northwestern Pulaski, Southeastern LaPorte and St. Joseph Counties. Since yesterday, between 4 and 8 inches of rain have fallen over the warning area, with additional showers expected to bring between one-fourth and one-half inch of additional rainfall.
The potential for flash flooding has lessened, but extensive flooding will continue across the warning area throughout the day.
Motorists are reminded to turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Pavement may be washed out underneath, and vehicles can easily be swept away. River banks and culverts can also become unstable and unsafe.
