Hamlet Town Council Approves Budget Cuts

Hamlet Fall 5The Hamlet Town Council last week made cuts to the 2016 budget in anticipation of their 2017 spending plan. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts advised after meeting with officials from the Department of Local Government Finance that the town needs to zero out its general fund cushion in order to avoid a state-mandated cut.

The Hamlet Park Board’s budget also needs to be reduced for the same reason. The town recently purchased new equipment and security cameras for the park. In order to keep the budget in line, the purchase of new ramps for the skate park will be deferred until next year.

The Hamlet Town Council passed resolutions to cut the 2016 general fund by $12,050 and the park fund by $8,110.
