A special history boat cruise in Culver will focus on the area’s literary history.

History Cruises have become a bit of an attraction in the Culver community and take place regularly throughout the summer. The special cruise, however, is focusing on Hoosier author Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and his connections to Lake Maxinkuckee.

The cruise took attendees into a restored 1890’s cottage on Monday where the author spent his childhood summers. The cottage was restored by a group of Culver Academies’ graduates – the fruits of which have won awards and recognition statewide. The cruise itself will go into the extensive history of the Vonnegut family during its time in Culver.

History cruises will take place on August 19th, 21st, and 26th and last about 90 minutes.
