Unemployment Down in Starke County, Up Slightly in Pulaski County

Indiana Workforce DevelopmentUnemployment rates have dropped in Starke County, but are up slightly in Pulaski County.

According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s July figures, Starke County had an unemployment rate of 5.1 percent. That’s a half of a percentage point down from the same period a year ago and a drop of 0.2-percent from June 2016.

Meanwhile, Pulaski County rose to 4.5-percent unemployment last month. That’s just 0.1-percent higher than both July 2015 and June 2016.

However, the number of people in the workforce has increased from last year, and the actual number of people employed is also up in both counties, compared to July 2015. Additionally, both counties experienced a higher July unemployment rate than the state as a whole. Indiana’s rate was 4.4 percent.

Locally, LaPorte County had the highest July unemployment rate at 5.6 percent. Marshall County was below the state average, with 3.6-percent unemployment in July.
