Moving Starke County Forward Releases Final Results of Summer Walking Challenge

movingstarkeforwardStarke County residents logged over 12,000 miles during Moving Starke County Forward’s 2016 summer walking challenge. This year’s event, called “Starke County Walks to the Moon,” ran from Memorial Day to Labor Day. During that time, 135 individuals took part in the challenge, as well as to 15 teams.

This week, organizers released the final results. Arlene Noble was the clear winner in the individual category, logging just under 886 miles. Donna Osborne came in second place with 505 miles, followed closely by James Skibbe at just over 503 miles. In the team category, the Toto Trekkers took first place with 3,813 total miles. The SCCF Moon Walkers came in second with 1,994 miles.

Each year’s summer walking challenge gives residents a chance to compete for prizes by walking, running, biking, or taking part in another physical activity, and then logging their progress. In a press release, organizers called “Starke County Walks to the Moon” a great success and thanked everyone who took part.

Moving Starke County Forward was formed in 2012 to improve the health of local residents. The county has consistently ranked near the bottom in state health rankings.
