Knox Officials Still Taking Street Name Suggestions for 150 South

City_of_Knox_LogoKnox officials are still taking naming suggestions for a street on the south end of the city. One of the projects funded by a state Community Crossings grant is the extension of 150 South from South Heaton Street by Sandy Acres Park past the Knox Community School Corporation bus barn west to Roosevelt Road.

Suggestions offered during a recent Knox City Council meeting include Oak Street, some sort of Indian name to celebrate the community’s heritage or a historical name like Klopot. The family moved from Chicago to the area in 1984 and opened photography studios in Knox, North Judson and Bass Lake. The Klopot family maintained a studio in Knox until the 1960s, and Stella (Klopot) Bonner also served as the county’s first historian.

Another possible name is Kennedy, as next year will mark the 100th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s birth.

Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council Tuesday he’s gotten about four suggestions from residents and would like more before officials try to narrow them down. He adds there’s no rush to make a final decision.

Residents can contact the mayor’s office at 574-772-4553 or email mayor@cityofknox.net or the clerk-treasurer’s office at jhoustonct@cityofknox.net.
