Pulaski County Commissioners Approve Truck Purchase with Council’s Blessing

The Pulaski County Highway Department can proceed with ordering a new truck. Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff told the county council Monday funds for a new Mack truck are in the 2017 budget, but he would like to get it ordered now. He says doing so will save the county money, as the price will likely go up by 2 to 3 percent in January.

Ruff adds ordering the truck now could have it in service in time for winter weather, as there is an extended delivery time.

The county is buying the truck from Pozzo Truck Center in Gary for $115,985 and having Winamac-based Terry Truck Equipment outfit the chassis, for a total cost of $165,960. Officials noted that price reflects the government price for such a rig.

If the bill for the truck comes in before the end of the year, the council agreed it can be paid from the Local Option Income Tax distribution the county received from the state, and that money can be reimbursed next year.

The county commissioners approved the purchase after receiving the council’s blessing to proceed.
