A LaPorte man made matters worse for himself Saturday night when he allegedly bit the police officer who was trying to arrest him.

Joshawa Ragnone, 28, of LaPorte, is charged with a felony offense of battery against an officer, along with misdemeanor offenses of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

Officers responded just before 7 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 300 block of Obberich Street to investigate an unknown problem. A woman at the residence told them everything was fine, but as they were leaving Ragnone reportedly approached the officers on the sidewalk and began yelling obscenities at them.

He ignored several warnings to quiet down, according to the arrest report, and bit LaPorte Police Officer Robert Hagler in the arm.
