Culver School Board Approves Bus Purchases

The Culver Community Schools Corporation is getting a couple new school buses, as well as a new van.

On Monday, the school board approved the purchase of two full-size yellow buses from Midwest Transit, for a cost of $175,770. The board also voted to purchase a white Starcraft van from Midwest Transit for $59,240. Transportation Director Paul Widman told board members the corporation got trade-in allowances for two buses totaling $10,000.

For the first time, Culver Schools solicited bus bids statewide through the cooperative school buying service. Widman said that arrangement worked out well. “I thought it might get a little more people to bid on it,” he explained. “And it’s easier. After this, you don’t have to advertise. You just bid through that co-op buying service, and you save the fees for putting it in three papers or two papers for two times.”

The school board approved the purchases unanimously.
