LaPorte County Police Warn Public, Following Three Apparent Heroin Overdoses in Four Hours

Three apparent heroin overdoses in the span of four hours Friday have LaPorte County police alarmed.

Officials with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and LaPorte County Drug Task Force say a 24-year-old male and an 18-year-old female were found around 2 p.m. in the 100 block of I Street in LaPorte, apparently suffering from an overdose. Then at 6:00 p.m., a 58-year-old female was found unresponsive due to a suspected overdose in the 7800 block of West U.S. 6. On top of that, police say there was also an overdose case about a day earlier in Union Mills.

Sheriff John Boyd said in a statement his department has decided to let the public know about the overdoses, so more harm and loss of life can be prevented. He encourages those who know someone struggling with heroin addiction to take every step possible to stop more harm from being done.

Boyd says that while it’s still early in the investigation, they do know that the LaPorte County Emergency Medical Service has had to use multiple doses of Narcan. Sheriff’s Department officials add that “the three individuals are alive only because of the fast actions of first responders and medical staff.”
