Oregon-Davis Receives Lilly Endowment Inc. Grant

The Oregon-Davis School Corporation is the recipient of a $30,000 grant. The funds from the Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Comprehensive Counseling Initiative for Indiana K-12 Students aim to increase the number of K-12 students in Indiana who are emotionally healthy, realize academic success, graduate from high school, complete some sort of postsecondary training and are prepared to compete and prosper in our global society.

OD will use the money to fund a Career Technical Coach to assist the guidance departments with the promotion of career and technical education programs. Also Success Coaches will offer additional support to students who are above or below grade level and may be part of a minority group. The Success Coaches will monitor the student’s’ academic progress and serve as a mentor throughout the school year.

Also a peer mentoring program will be implemented at OD for identified elementary and middle school students who may have additional academic, emotional or social needs. The goals of the program are to build relationships, change the current school culture to a more positive environment and provide younger students with a positive older role model.
