Pulaski County to Seek Advice of Preservationist on Courthouse Accessibility

Pulaski County is getting outside help to address accessibility issues at the courthouse.

Auditor Laura Wheeler told the county commissioners Monday she plans to have a preservationist speak with the commissioners and the county council during an upcoming joint session, “At the last conference, I talked to the president of the Indiana Counties Association and asked him about what the options are for an old courthouse and the situation with the ADA, and he said that we need to contact or get with this person who is a preservationist for courthouses.”

Plans for potential courthouse renovations have become more urgent, following a lawsuit alleging a lack of accessibility in the courthouse for people with disabilities and mobility issues.

Meanwhile, Pulaski County’s health insurance will be up for renewal in August. County Attorney Kevin Tankersley plans to put together some guidelines for potential providers, and invite them to submit proposals. Wheeler said several companies have asked to give a presentation to the commissioners.
