LaPorte County Fugitive in Custody

The suspect in a LaPorte County burglary and battery case has been taken into custody, thanks to the help of a Porter County Sheriff’s K-9. David Lane, 46, was found hiding in a wooded area in the 4500 block of East Scholl Road and taken into custody around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

His vehicle was found close to that location Tuesday, but officers were not able to find Lane. On Wednesday, investigators called for assistance from the Porter County Sheriff’s Police who have a Hanoverian Hound to help with tracking. While searching the area again using a grid pattern, K-9 Bumpus was able to locate Lane, who was found hiding in a hole and covered with debris.

Officers say Lane was taken into custody without incident. He had been considered armed and dangerous and had allegedly threatened to commit “suicide by cop.” Lane is accused of forcing his way into his estranged wife’s home Monday night, threatening her with a firearm, and battering her.
