Monterey Infant Killed, Parents Injured in Saturday Crash

A two-vehicle crash near Argos claims the life of an infant from Monterey. It happened just before 5 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 31 at State Road 110. The Indiana State Police, Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, Rochester and Argos Police Departments all responded.

The preliminary ISP investigation indicates a 2013 Ford Taurus driven by 21-year-old Brittany Gonzalez of Monterey was southbound on U.S. 31 and turned left in front of a northbound Ford F-350 pickup truck driven by 24-year-old Ricardo Hernandez of Goshen.

He was not injured. Gonzalez was airlifted to a South Bend hospital with non-life threatening injuries. So were her husband, 21-year-old Ivan Gonzalez and son, 2-year-old Isaac Davis, both of Monterey. They were passengers in the Taurus.

A third passenger, 11-month-old Julian Gonzalez of Monterey, was taken by ambulance to a Plymouth hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Neither alcohol nor narcotics are believed to have been contributing factors in the crash. The report notes everyone involved except Ivan Gonzalez was properly secured in either a seatbelt or a child safety seat. The crash investigation is continuing.
