Hoosiers Encouraged to “Wear Your Life Jacket to Work” Friday

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is joining an effort to raise awareness of water safety in advance of National Safe Boating Week. The agency is supporting tomorrow’s “Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day.” It’s hosted by the National Safe Boating Council to raise awareness of different types of life jackets.

Participants are asked to take a picture in their life jacket and post it to the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Facebook page.

Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard say drowning was the reported cause of death in 75 percent of recreational boating fatalities in 2015. An estimated 85 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets.
