Oregon-Davis School Board Approves Leo Club, Summer Program Facilities Use

A new club at Oregon-Davis Junior/Senior High School will mean more community service opportunities for students. Superintendent Don Harman says the school board this week approved the addition of a Leo Club.

sixth-through-12th-grade version of a Lions Club. “Obviously, the Lions Club is to give back to the community, to work with the community, provide to the community, and so we know that there are students who help our Lions Club during our fair,” Harman says. “It’s kind of a really neat thing that our kids want to work at the fair in our Lions Club Building. So what we want to do is start a program where students can actually do community service and give back to our community.” Harman adds the Leo Club will be sponsored by the Hamlet Lions Club and affiliated with Lions Clubs International.

Meanwhile, the Oregon-Davis FFA Chapter will get a boost, as part of the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program. The school corporation was notified earlier this year that it was awarded $2,500, after being nominated by a local farmer. Harman learned earlier this week that Hamlet resident Janet Hayes has asked that the money go to the school’s FFA program.

A couple summer programs will be returning to Oregon-Davis this year, following action by the school board Monday. Board members authorized the Starke County Youth Club to use the elementary school during the month of June, while Autism Resources of Marshall County will hold an autism camp at Oregon-Davis in July.
