Performance Stage Sod Installation Today, Additional Summer Plans Announced

Knox officials are putting final touches on the performance stage in Wythogan Park ahead of the May 27th dedication. Mayor Dennis Estok is looking for volunteers to help lay sod today for the project. They will begin work at 10 a.m., and he encourages anyone who would like to lend a hand to stop by.

Performances are scheduled after the dedication ceremony, which will coincide with the Memorial Day weekend car show and cruise night in the park.

Estok says the first official concert in the park will take place Thursday, June 8 from 7 until 9 p.m. The Chicago-based 14-piece band Bare Facts will perform songs from the 1960s, 70s, 80s and beyond. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Estok adds the city will be soliciting sponsors and co-sponsors for the performance.

The Knox Park Board is also working out details for Movies in the Park on the performance stage. Estok says they’re looking at sometime in June, but dates have not been set yet.

Anyone who might be interested in sponsoring events on the performance stage can contact the mayor’s office at 574-772-4553.
