Governor Eric Holcomb briefly responded to Wednesday’s violence at the U.S. Capitol. “This country is strong and resilient, and to me, this is a reminder for all of us that we can, ourselves, model good conduct,” Holcomb said. “We can still fight for our country in a very responsible and compassionate and heartfelt way, and we should.”

Kingsford Heights Man Arrested following Police Chase in Pulaski, Jasper Counties

A police chase in Pulaski and Jasper counties Wednesday morning reportedly led to the arrest of a Kingsford Heights man on drug possession charges. A Pulaski County sheriff’s deputy says he responded to a call about a possible impaired driver around 12:30 a.m. He says he located the vehicle, but instead of stopping, it sped away, before eventually crashing in Jasper County.

Knox School Board Members Sworn into Office, More Students Return for In-Person Learning

The Knox School Board welcomed its two newest members, as more students returned for in-person learning. Newly-elected board members Mike Lord and Autumn Ferch took their oaths of office during Tuesday’s meeting, along with reelected members Kirk Bennett and Wendy McIntire.

Pulaski County Coroner Still Ineligible for Health Insurance, Retirement Benefits following County Council Decision

Efforts to bring the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office in line with other county departments moved forward slightly last month, but the county council stopped short of offering the coroner health insurance and retirement benefits. Council members agreed to let County Attorney Kevin Tankersley add the Coroner’s Office to the county handbook and review a proposed job description for a part-time deputy.

N.J.-S.P. School Board Agrees to Let Extra Elementary Project Money Be Used for Bus Garage

The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation will be able to tackle some extra work, after bids for the elementary school project came in significantly lower than expected. The school board recently agreed to let the project bond proceeds be used for the bus garage, as well as a few more items at the elementary school, according to Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin.
