The Winamac Park Board is scaling back its plans for upgrades to Veterans Memorial Park, at least for now. Park Board President Courtney Poor had suggested adding a decorative archway prominently displaying the name of the park. But during last week’s meeting, he said he has reconsidered, after residents complained the archway would clutter the park.
The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will work on the corporation’s 2018 budget this evening, after wrapping up some business before the start of the school year. School administrators weren’t quite done hiring teachers before last month’s regular meeting. The school board will meet in special session today at 5:00 p.m. to take care of those personnel items.
Three people were taken to hospitals Friday, after a crash on U.S. 30 and County Road 1100 East. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just after 11:30 Friday morning.

A one-pot meth lab was reportedly found at a home near Monterey, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say they got a tip Wednesday that people were manufacturing methamphetamine at a home in the 7900 block of North Lake Street.

The demolition of a Downtown North Judson building has finally begun. Crews began tearing down the structure at 205 and 207 Lane Street Monday morning, according to North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins.
North Judson residents will have to wait another week for the start of curbside recycling pickup. A flyer distributed by Republic Services incorrectly stated that recycling service begins this Thursday. Company officials say the correct date is Thursday, August 10. Pickup will then take place every other week.
