Fatal Francesville Fire Under Investigation
An early morning fire in Francesville has claimed a life. The Francesville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a home at 203 Yellow Street just before 2 a.m. Thursday. County Home Zoning Changed After Multiple Discussions
The Pleasant View Rest Home has a new zoning designation.
Tuesday night the Winamac Plan Commission held their third meeting discussing the property and how changing the zoning designation may affect its future. The Pleasant View Rest Home ceased operations last year and was put up for sale by the Pulaski County government as a result. Until this week, it carried an Industrial Zoning label which made a sale difficult given the possible future uses of the building.
Starke County Commissioners Contemplate Ambulance Purchases
The Starke County Commissioners have deferred a decision on the purchase of two used ambulances. EMS Director Keith Emigh told the commissioners Monday the diesel trucks are both 2005 models with 125,000 and 118,000 miles respectively. The $20,000 per truck price includes lights, which typically cost extra when purchasing any sort of new emergency vehicle. Continue reading
Pulaski County Proposes Agreement in Preparation for Reynolds-Topeka Work
Pulaski County is looking to protect itself when major infrastructure work starts locally at some point in the future.
On Monday night, the County’s Highway Department approached the Pulaski County Commissioners with a “Road Use” Agreement. The contract is expected to be signed with NIPSCO as work continues on the Reynolds-Topeka Electric Transmission Line.

Pulaski County Seeks Partnership In Exchange for Purdue Extension Offerings
Pulaski County is hoping to form a bit of a partnership with Purdue Extension that allows them better IT services.
The extension offices are linked with the county, but are considered a separate organization. Pulaski County provides assistance in the case of an IT problem, but says the addition of classes offered through IVY tech may require further assistance.
West Central Establishes Learning Lab/Alternative Education Program
West Central High School students will have expanded educational opportunities during the upcoming school year thanks to a program approved last week by the school board. Superintendent Don Street says the learning lab/alternative education program has endless possibilities, including allowing students to retake courses in nontraditional classrooms or take courses not currently offered at West Central.
