Sandra Lee Studio of Dance Recital Scheduled This Weekend

Knox Officials Struggle With Sump Pumps
Sump pumps are creating an issue for the Knox Wastewater Department. Superintendent Kelly Clemons told the board of works last week the plant treats an average of 300,000 gallons of water per day in dry weather. Paint the Town Purple Looks to Raise Awareness for Cancer Fighting Causes
Relay for Life of Starke County has started its annual “Paint the Town Purple” event.
The organization is encouraging businesses and individuals to decorate their storefronts or their homes with purple. A carnival theme to coincide with the annual Relay for Life event is also accepted to help raise awareness of the American Cancer Society’s efforts.

Tax Scammers Now Targeting Students
The Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers about another phone scam, this one targeting students. A caller claiming to be from the IRS demands payment for a “Federal Student Tax,” threatening to report students to the police if they don’t wire money immediately. Ongoing Investigation Nets Arrest in Voyeurism Case
Weapon at South Central H.S. Was BB Gun, According to Sheriff
Officials with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office say a recent report of a weapon on school property at South Central turned out to be a BB gun. An investigation into the May 14th incident found that a freshman student on the baseball team brought the gun to practice with the intent to take it to a friend’s house afterward. Walorski Responds to Hamlet Railroad Inquiry
Hamlet officials remain hopeful repairs will soon be made to the rough railroad crossing on Starke Street. They reached out to U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski for assistance. In a letter dated May 10, 2016, she advised an inspector from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Indianapolis Field Office has checked the tracks and found them to be in compliance with the agency’s regulations. Culver Main Street Pursuit Aided Through Non-Profit Status
Culver is attempting to improve its downtown area, but they’re asking for more volunteers to help with the process.
The Town is engaged in discussions with representatives from the state’s Indiana Main Street Program. It’s designed to enhance economic development and revitalization of downtown areas in communities across the state.
