Sump pumpSump pumps are creating an issue for the Knox Wastewater Department. Superintendent Kelly Clemons told the board of works last week the plant treats an average of 300,000 gallons of water per day in dry weather. Tax Scammers Now Targeting Students

IRS Phone ScamThe Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers about another phone scam, this one targeting students. A caller claiming to be from the IRS demands payment for a “Federal Student Tax,” threatening to report students to the police if they don’t wire money immediately. Weapon at South Central H.S. Was BB Gun, According to Sheriff

 
 

Officials with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office say a recent report of a weapon on school property at South Central turned out to be a BB gun. An investigation into the May 14th incident found that a freshman student on the baseball team brought the gun to practice with the intent to take it to a friend’s house afterward. Authorities note it was never displayed and remained in its case in the press box. Continue reading

Walorski Responds to Hamlet Railroad Inquiry

 
 

Hamlet officials remain hopeful repairs will soon be made to the rough railroad crossing on Starke Street. They reached out to U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski for assistance. In a letter dated May 10, 2016, she advised an inspector from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Indianapolis Field Office has checked the tracks and found them to be in compliance with the agency’s regulations.
