Doug Vessely
North Judson Town Marshal Doug Vessely

From the North Judson Police Department:

Incidents:
02/07/11 A juvenile female reported to North Judson Police of being harassed by another adult man via texting and her Facebook page. She was directed to get a protection order issued, which she did.

02/10/11 The North Judson Police investigated a theft of jewelry in the 400 Block of Arlington Avenue. North Judson Police Officer Joe Budner learned the items were pawned at a local pawn shop. Of the items, two watches were recovered while three rings were already sent off to be melted down. Police Chief Doug Vessely stated that charges were requested through the Starke County Prosecutor’s office for the theft on the person who pawned the items while the investigation continues into the matter for any additional suspects.

02/10/11 North Judson Police investigated a rare 4 vehicle accident on Laurel Street around 5:15 pm. “It isn’t very often four vehicles are involved in a single accident within the town limits,” stated Chief Doug Vessely. He added, “We’re very grateful that this doesn’t happen very often.”

The crash was investigated by Officer Kelly Fisher, who set the total damages at near $2,500.00 No injuries were reported. A vehicle being driven by Tim Wireman, of Medaryville, was backing out of a driveway on Laurel Street while a second vehicle, driven by Darren Eberhart of North Judson, was westbound on Laurel Street near the driveway. Meanwhile, a third vehicle, being driven by Adrienne Barton, of North Judson, was eastbound and stopped, waiting to pull into a driveway on Laurel. The Wireman vehicle backed into vehicle two causing it to cross over and strike vehicle three, which was stopped in traffic, and pushed vehicle three off the south side of the street and into a driveway where it struck vehicle four that was parked in the driveway.

“This goes to show how quickly things can happen during a traffic crash and how a chain reaction can be very dangerous,” said Vessely. “In this particular accident, no one was hurt and none of the vehicle involved were going very fast, but it gives you cause to think of how serious it could be if driving on a highway at 55 miles per hour,” Drive carefully and Buckle up!
