Knox City Council Discusses 2015 Budget
The Knox City Council members discussed the 2015 budget during their meeting Tuesday night.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston explained that the budget reflects a 2.44 percent increase in appropriations. He said he hopes that it comes within the maximum levy which is the maximum amount that can be raised through property taxes.
Houston said the council members will need to make cuts to the budget in 2015.
Marshall County Council Approves Budgets
The Marshall County Council members approved the 2015 budget after making over $300,000 in cuts.
They initially cut $177,654 out of the General Fund with the sheriff’s budget and the prosecutor’s budget getting hit the hardest. The council also decided to move $216,859 in the sheriff’s pension to the certified shares portion of the budget. With those changes, the $9,041,321 all-funds budget was approved.
West Central School Board Braces for Possible Budget Cuts
The West Central School Board held the hearing for the 2015 budget during their recent meeting.
The board opened the floor for comments on the budget, capital projects plan, transportation plan and bus replacement plan. Superintendent Don Street went over the line items and said there are no significant changes in the budget for 2015.
Marshall County Council to Meet Today
The Marshall County Council will meet this morning with quite a few items on the agenda.
The council members will hear several additional appropriation requests. The coroner will request several thousand dollars for the autopsy, toxicology and radiology line items plus additional money for morgue supplies. The surveyor is requesting $25,000 for a vehicle purchase and there is a request to take money from the rainy day fund to go toward the Metronet project in the amount of $125,000.
Knox City Council Reschedules Budget Public Hearing
The Knox City Council will have the public hearing on the 2015 budget on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston told the council members this week that the date was modified from its original calendar date due to an error in the publication. Houston said he notified the Department of Local Government Finance and they are aware of the change and approved it. The budget needed to be re-advertised for two weeks which has caused the delay in the public hearing.
Eastern Pulaski School Board Approves Advertisement of 2015 Budget
The Eastern Pulaski School Board gave permission to advertise their first-ever calendar year budget.
The corporation just recently moved to a calendar year budget after having operating on a fiscal year budget for several decades. The decision to move was prompted by a difficulty with using state software to do budgets. Now only one school corporation in the state remains on a fiscal year budget.
