Fire destroys the Sandbar at Bass Lake

The fire at the Sandbar at Bass Lake has been ruled an arson.

Detectives with the Starke County Sheriff’s Department have determined that some unknown individual(s) started the fire in the early morning hours of Dec. 2. Five fire departments battled the blaze at the popular Starke County establishment and it took three hours to extinguish the fire.

No Word Yet on Cause of Bass Lake Sandbar Fire

No word has been released on the cause of the fire at the Bass Lake Sandbar.

There is still no official word on the cause of the fire at the Sandbar at Bass Lake.

Bass Lake Fire Chief Les Jensen is awaiting a report from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office that releases pertinent information concerning the investigation into the early morning fire that destroyed the business on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Jensen has not released a preliminary cause of the fire as it remains under investigation with the Indiana State Fire Marshal.

Five fire departments battled the blaze at the popular Starke County establishment and it took three hours to extinguish the fire.

No Word Yet on Cause of Bass Lake Sandbar Fire

The investigation continues into the fire at the Sandbar at Bass Lake.

Bass Lake Fire Chief Les Jensen said he has not yet heard back from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office about the investigation and word about the cause of the fire may not come for a while.

Five fire departments were called to the popular bar in Starke County early Sunday, Dec. 2 after a report came in about smoke and flames coming from the establishment at about 4:26 a.m. It took three hours to extinguish the fire.

Fire Destroys Bass Lake Sandbar

The Sandbar at Bass Lake was destroyed by a fire yesterday morning. The Bass Lake Fire Department was called to the scene around 4:26 a.m. when a resident drove by the business and saw smoke and fire.

Bass Lake Fire Chief Les Jensen said the building is a total loss, and his crew responded within eight minutes of the initial call. It took over three hours to contain the fire. As the firefighters were attempting to put out the blaze, part of the roof fell in. Jensen would not provide a preliminary cause of the fire.

State Fire Marshall Fred Sumpter was on the scene yesterday afternoon conducting an investigation and helping with cleanup efforts.

The Bass Lake Fire Department was assisted by the Knox-Center Township, North Judson-Wayne Township, Washington Township and Hamlet Fire Departments.

The fire is still under investigation and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
