Five Star Celebrates 47 Years Today!

Happy Birthday to a Knox business that WKVI has had a long relationship with. Five Star in Knox opened on this date 47 years ago today.

The first manager, and part owner, was Ben Lipke.

At one time, Five Star had seven stores, and Ben remembered opening the store here.

Today’s ‘Ted Hayes Remembers’ Show Features Ben Lipke

This is Friday, and Ted Hayes presents “Ted Hayes Remembers” twice today, at 12:20 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. CT. Today’s guest is Ben Lipke, who in 1964, was the first manager of Five Star and part owner.

Ben will talk about those early years. As Ben told Ted, the Knox location was one of seven in the Five Star chain. And, even though he might be a little prejudiced, Ben always thought the Knox store was the best.

Ted Hayes Remembers Jesse Clabaugh; Friday’s Show to Feature Ben Lipke

Hope you listened to the first “Ted Hayes Remembers” Friday. Ted will be in again this Friday with another interesting story from out of the past.

“You have to go clear back to 1943 for this one,” said Ted. “On this day, Jesse Clabaugh, the Community Defense Director during WWII, called for a black-out test for the county. Everyone had to turn their lights out in case of attack by the Germans. Jesse Clabaugh was the grandfather of our own Nancy Dembowski.”
