A man who tampered with his electronic monitoring device in May pleaded guilty to a charge of Escape as a Class D felony and Criminal Mischief as a Class A misdemeanor in Starke Circuit Court yesterday. Brenan Sanchez had been arrested in May after removing the device and then allegedly participating in a breaking and entering incident in the Mishawaka area.

Warrants Issued for Sanchez, Spencer

 
 

Warrants have been issued for two offenders who escaped electronic monitoring from Starke County Community Corrections.

On Sunday, Brenan Sanchez cut off his ankle bracelet and fled to the Mishawaka area. Community Corrections staff began to investigate his whereabouts and found that he was at a girlfriend’s house in Mishawaka.

As this investigation was going on, another offender, Dustin Spencer, cut off his ankle bracelet on Monday.

Two Starke County Offenders Charged with Escape

 
 
Two Starke County Community Corrections clients have been charged with Escape after reportedly cutting off their ankle bracelets.

Brenan Sanchez and Dustin Spencer allegedly tampered with their electronic monitoring devices earlier this week. They were then reportedly involved in a breaking and entering incident in the Mishawaka area and are currently being housed in the St. Joseph County Jail on a preliminary charge of Criminal Trespass.

Two Sentenced in Starke Circuit Court in Battery Case

Two teenagers were sentenced in Starke Circuit Court yesterday for their involvement in a battery incident in May that left a man unconscious at times.

Daily James Potter and Jamal Green pleaded guilty to a charge of Theft in an incident where Potter and Green, plus two adult suspects John Potter and Brenan Sanchez, allegedly beat and kicked a Monterey man. Daily James Potter and Jamal Green stated in court that they were not involved in the battery but rather the theft of $400 in cash, a knife and prescription medication. They reached into the victim’s pockets, after he was on the ground after being battered, and took the money and a weekly pill container that contained several prescription medications.

Starke Circuit Court Hears Numerous Initial Hearings Thursday

Thursday was a busy day for the Starke Circuit Court, where several initial hearings were heard.

Daily James Potter received his initial hearing in the court and received a number of important dates, including his attorney status hearing on June 6 at 9 a.m. His first pre-trial conference will take place July 18 at 8 a.m., with his second pre-trial conference and plea agreement deadline on August 16 at 8 a.m. Potter is charged with Aggravated Battery as a Class B felony, Robbery as a Class B felony, and Battery as a Class C felony. His bond remains at $75,000, and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim in his case.

Three Culver Residents Arrested on Drug Charges

Three men from Culver were arrested in Plymouth Monday night on drug charges.

An officer from the Plymouth Police Department pulled over a vehicle at the intersection of Michigan and Diamond Streets and the officer took K9 Rex around the vehicle. The K9 indicated the presence of narcotics and in a search of the occupants and the vehicle, the officer found heroin, marijuana and several items of paraphernalia.
