Man Who Threatened to Kill Woman Sentenced in Starke Circuit Court

An Elkhart man was sentenced yesterday in Starke Circuit Court on a Class C felony charge of Intimidation and a misdemeanor count of Interference with Reporting a Crime.

Brent Komon, 25, pleaded guilty to those charges in a plea agreement with the State. Komon admitted to Judge Kim Hall that he and a Starke County woman had a disagreement on Oct. 31 and he threatened to take the life of the woman while armed with a loaded rifle. When she attempted to call the sheriff’s department, he admitted to the judge that he threw the phone at the TV and it broke, thus making it impossible for her to seek help from law enforcement.

Three Men Plead Not Guilty In Starke Circuit Court

Three initial hearings were heard in the Starke Circuit Court this week for men accused of a variety of crimes, including Dealing in Cocaine, Domestic Battery, and various Possession Charges.

Matthew Norem pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him, including Dealing in Cocaine or a Narcotic as a Class A felony and Trafficking with an Inmate as a Class C felony. Norem is accused of knowingly possessing at least three grams of heroin in his underwear at the Starke County Jail when he was arrested in December.

Knox Man Arrested For Threatening Girlfriend With a Gun

Police arrested a Knox man Wednesday after he allegedly went berserk, knocking over furniture before grabbing a shotgun and threatening his girlfriend.

At around 12:25 p.m. on Halloween, Police were dispatched to 6611 E. Toto Rd. in response to a female caller who advised her boyfriend had “destroyed” the residence, broke her cell phone so she could not call police, and then left the residence with a shotgun. She told police when they arrived that she and her boyfriend, Brent Komon, had been arguing all morning, but he became belligerent and knocked over a five-foot-tall cabinet. The victim told police that she then left the residence to take her son to a doctor’s appointment, but as she was leaving, she noticed him carrying a gun into the residence.
