Culver Superintendent Shares Plans to Tackle Jr/Sr High Cafeteria Project

When the Culver Community School Board met last week, Superintendent Karen Shuman shared a few updates about a remodeling project that will be tackled in the near future.

All three elements of the project; lighting, furnishing and flooring, would be focused in the cafeteria at the Junior/Senior High School building. According to Principal Brett Berndt, certain elements of the cafeteria date back nearly 50 years. Potential Renovations to Culver Junior/Senior High School Considered

Culver Community School Principal Brett Berndt brought up a few potential renovations to the Junior/Senior High School building at a board meeting last Monday.

Berndt informed the board members that the flooring in the cafeteria has been the same since 1968. He said that while that does mean it has held up for nearly 5 decades, he believes it is time for an upgrade. Additionally, he said the bathrooms across from the gym are from the same time as well.

Berndt said they’ve been looking into potentially renovating those two areas since the changes could reflect well on the school corporation when individuals come for various events. Continue reading

Culver School Board Reverses Administrative Cut, Delays Naming Permanent Superintendent

Culver Community School CorporationThe Culver Community Schools Corporation has changed its plans for administrative cuts, due to some recent resignations. Last December, the school corporation recommended cutting two administrative positions, as well as some teaching jobs, as a cost-saving measure. The school board moved ahead with that process earlier this year, voting not to renew the contract of Assistant Principal/Title 1 Director Julie Berndt. Continue reading

Culver Community School Board Hires Assistant Principal/Athletic Director

CulverHSA familiar face at Culver Community High School will be back next year in a dual role. Speech teacher Luke Biernacki  is the new assistant principal for the middle and high schools and and athletic director for the entire corporation. The Culver Community School Board hired him last night after a brief executive session. Superintendent Dr. Vicki McGuire says combining the administrative roles will allow for more dedicated academic accountability by the principals, as well as working on improving graduation rates. Biernacki says the opportunity is a perfect fit for his career goals.

“I’ve had my administrative license for a couple of years and been looking to move up,” he said in an interview after the meeting. “I’ve always wanted to move up with this corporation. It’s been a wonderful experience for the past six years. What I love most is the people I work with and the students and the community. It’s the best I’ve ever seen, and I look forward to continuing to work with them.”

Biernacki adds he wants to continue to meet the students’ needs and provide them the best possible experience. He’s also looking forward to working with new Culver Community High School Principal Brett Berndt and coaches as he transitions into his dual role.
