Multiple Departments Respond to North Judson-Area Brush Fire

A pair of simultaneous brush fires ended up burning nearly 160 acres Tuesday but managed to avoid any structures. That’s according to a Facebook post from the North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters were called to the area of county roads 800 South and 150 West Tuesday afternoon. Five fire departments were eventually on the scene, while three others were placed on standby.

Fire Officials: Don’t Burn Yard Debris on a Windy Day

 
 

Temperatures are becoming more spring-like and it’s tempting to get out into the yard to get rid of leaves and brush left over from the winter months. The most common way to get rid of the debris is to burn it. On occasion, burn piles can get out of control, and the fire department is called to assist a homeowner in putting out the flames.

Firefighters have responded to several brush fires in the past few days.

Knox-Center Township Fire Chief Kenny Pfost urges you to choose a nice day to burn any of that debris.

North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department Battles Brush Fires

The warm weather has prompted early spring cleaning and North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief, Joe Leszek, says his department has been called out to several brush fires already this season.

In the past five days, firefighters have been called to seven brush/woods fires. Leszek asks that you be cautious when burning brush this time of year as foliage has not yet begun its spring transformation and is dry. Winds are usually very strong and unpredictable this time of year.
