ISDH Begins Toxicology Pilot Program to Improve Coroner Consistency in the State

The Center for Disease control said that Indiana is one of the three worst states for overdose fatality reports because of inconsistencies in the way coroners test and fill out death certificates. In an effort to improve that reporting, the Indiana State Department of Health’s Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention launched a toxicology pilot program that works with coroners and allows them to order either a basic or more comprehensive panel. Starke Dems Tap Hoffer for Coroner Position

 The Starke County Democrats have elected a new Coroner.

A caucus was held Wednesday night at the VFW in Knox to select a new candidate for the job. Filling the position during a special caucus was needed following the resignation former Coroner Adam Gray – who cited personal and professional reasons behind the move.

Starke Dems to Caucus September 23rd

Democratic Party DonkeyThe Starke County Democratic Party will caucus to find a new Coroner a little later this month.

A vacancy was created when former Coroner Adam Gray stepped down, citing professional and family reasons for the decision. Starke County has partnered with Jasper County in the interim to continue providing the Coroner service.

Autopsy Findings Released for Victim of Salvage Yard Accident

Marshall County Coroner William Cleavenger released the preliminary autopsy finds in last week’s fatal accident at an auto salvage facility in Plymouth.

Forty six year old Brian Lehiy died of injuries that were consistent with positional traumatic asphyxiation when a car fell on him while working at the salvage yard. Lehiy was an employee of the business where the incident occurred Wednesday.
