Traffic Stop Leads to South Bend Man’s Arrest on Drug Charges

A South Bend man was arrested earlier this month in Marshall County after a traffic stop led to the discovery of controlled substances. On Saturday, Dec. 8 around 9:33 p.m., an officer with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation on Sycamore Road just north of State Road 17.

As the officer spoke with the driver, he became suspicious that he was under the influence of drugs. A quick investigation led to the discovery of marijuana and prescription medication in the driver’s possession. The suspect submitted to a certified test and was subsequently arrested on charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated On Controlled Substances.

Devin Taviner, 28 of South Bend, was arrested and booked in the Marshall County Jail on a $1500 bond.
