Ancilla College President Dr. Ken Zirkle Announces Retirement, Board Appoints Replacement

Dr. Ken Zirkle, who has served as the president of Ancilla College for the past four years, has announced his retirement, effective Monday, May 14th.

During his time an Ancilla, the college saw a lot of growth. Two new residence halls and a student life center were built on campus and a few new programs were added including the Autism Program at Ancilla and the culinary arts and agriculture programs. Continue reading

1st Source Bank Donates to Ancilla Comprehensive Campaign

The bank that helped finance the construction of the first Ancilla College residence hall is giving back to the school. 1st Source Bank has donated $65,000 to the school as an early-bird gift during the quiet phase of Ancilla’s upcoming comprehensive campaign. Ancilla Officials, Bishop Dedicate Residence Hall

Blessing 8The new residence hall at Ancilla College is ready for the rest of the student body to move in on Friday. The Most Reverend Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese blessed the building during a ceremony yesterday in Donaldson attended by about 200 people. He says the word “Ancilla” is Latin for “handmaid.” When Mary was asked by the angel Gabriel if she would say yes to being the mother of the son of God, she answered, “I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your work.” Bishop Rhoades says that act of faith inspired the sisters of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ to found Ancilla College. New Ancilla College Dorm Filled to Capacity

Residence Hall 1Ancilla College officials will formally dedicate the first dormitory on the campus of the two-year private school during a ceremony tomorrow afternoon. President Dr. Ken Zirkle says 40 or so student-athletes have already moved in and are enjoying the amenities of the three-story building. They include a study lounge at the end of each floor and free laundry facilities on each level.  There are also dedicated areas for recycling. Continue reading

Ancilla College Students Graduate

Ancilla Graduation editAncilla College graduated its 48th class in school history on Saturday, with 65 students awarded degrees. “This is an excellent graduating class,” said Ancilla College President Dr. Ken Zirkle. “I am very proud of the graduates; a number of whom are already accepted and enrolled in four-year programs or are already placed in jobs that came as a result of their education here at Ancilla.”

Of the graduates, 13 were recognized during a Friday honors convocation for graduating Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude and Cum Laude. Another 20 were honored for their affiliation with Ancilla’s Beta Beta Beta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the two-year college honor society in American higher education. 25 graduates were honored with being named among Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Ancilla President Reflects on First Year

Dr. Kenneth Zirkle just completed his first year as president of Ancilla College.

Another academic year is in the books at Ancilla College. President Ken Zirkle took over leadership of the two-year, private, Catholic school last fall and has accomplished quite a bit in a short amount of time. During his tenure, school officials broke ground on Ancilla’s first residence hall. It’s on schedule to be finished Aug. 1 and will provide housing for about 100 first-year students. Ancilla College President Discusses Agriculture Program

Ancilla College NEWAncilla College is adding a new two-year degree program in agriculture. President Dr. Ken Zirkle says classes will be offered this fall. Students who complete the program can either transfer to Purdue and get a bachelor’s degree or enter the workforce.

Zirkle says the head of a regional agriculture-related corporation recently told him they need workers with training beyond high school but not a bachelor’s degree. He says that’s a perfect fit for what Ancilla has to offer. School officials will be working with local corporations to develop classes to meet their needs. Continue reading

Ancilla College Officials Break Ground for New Residence Hall

Ancilla groundbreakingAncilla College officials broke ground on the new residence hall Tuesday afternoon.

The three-story facility and student life dining center is expected to open on Aug. 1, just in time for the fall semester. The residence hall will be home for nearly 100 new students. The project includes a separate dining facility, fitness area, media center, two-story lobby with fireplace and prayer rooms.

Ancilla College President Dr. Ken Zirkle told those in attendance yesterday that this is just the beginning of great things to come at Ancilla.

Dr. Zirkle to Stay at Ancilla College

The Board of Trustees at Ancilla College recently voted to name Dr. Ken Zirkle as president of Ancilla College.

He held the interim president position for the past seven months. Dr. Zirkle’s contract is for another year. In a news release from the facility, the board also voted to approve a new residence hall for the 2015 Fall semester. Dr. Zirkle stated that he’s looking forward to assisting in the future growth and development of the college.

Ancilla College Offers Winter Term Course

Ancilla College NEWThe first winter semester course offering at Ancilla College begins today. The four-week introduction to psychology course is offered entirely online and is available to students at any college or university. Ancilla President Dr. Ken Zirkle says the credits are fully transferable to other colleges or universities. He adds taking a course during what is traditionally an off time academically can help students retain their athletic eligibility and meet the minimum standards for financial aid offerings.
