The County Commission of Public Records of Starke County members met last week and discussed several items during their annual meeting.

Clerk Evelyn Skronski said the commission meets once a year to review requests to destroy certain county government documents. Documents such as old unused election ballots and other outdated documents were reviewed for disposal. The recommendation to destroy that paperwork will be sent to the state commission who will then approve or disapprove the request. If the request is approved, the county can then review vendor bids to properly destroy the papers.

Candidate Filing for 2014 Election in January

 
 

Candidate filing for the 2014 election is just two months away. Several members of the community have already announced intentions to seek their party’s vote for a chance to win a seat in local elections.

Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski said the first day to file for candidacy is Jan. 8, 2014. Her position is up for election in 2014 as well as prosecutor, auditor, sheriff, coroner, assessor, county commissioner district 2, county council districts 1-4, and Center Township assessor. The at-large and North Bend Township seats on the Culver Community School Board are up for election, as well as the California Township, Washington Township and Center Township Seat 1 on the Knox Community School Board and the District 1-3 seats on the Oregon-Davis School Board.

Starke Commissioners Adopt New Council Redistricting Plan

  
 
The Starke County Commissioners adopted the new council redistricting plan, having previously narrowed down the possibilities to two proposed plans. Neither of these two plans, however, were brought forth for a vote; rather, Commissioner Kathy Norem and Clerk Evelyn Skronski both presented revised plans. Commissioner Kathy Norem explained these two options are similar and share a number of strengths and weaknesses.

Starke Election Board Receives DLGF Approval for Ballot Question

The Starke County Election Board met Thursday morning to discuss a number of topics, including the Knox Community School Corporation’s request to hold a special election on May 7 in order to present a public question to its voters.

Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski said that the Department of Local Government Finance did not approve the referendum wording before the meeting, but the approval was received after the meeting was held. She said the DLGF approved everything with no changes, and the board also received certification from Auditor Kay Chaffins. Now, she said, the Election Board must vote on whether or not to put the question on the ballot.

Three Weddings Conducted Tuesday in Starke County Clerk’s Office

Love was in the air Tuesday in the Starke County Clerk’s office. Starke County Election Board to Hold Post Election Meeting

The Starke County Election Board has scheduled a post election meeting for Friday, December 10th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the 2nd floor meeting room in the Starke County Courthouse.

The Board, consisting of President Pat Mitchell, Vice President Jim Henriott and Clerk Evelyn Skronski, will review the 2010 election, make plans for the 2011 City Election and approve election workers. The public is invited to attend the meeting.
