Fireworks Tonight At the Starke County Airport

The Starke County Fireworks celebration is tonight at the Starke County Airport! The gates open at 6 p.m. and there is a five dollar charge per carload. The Starke County Fireworks Committee encourages you to get all of your family members and friends together to attend the fireworks celebration.

There will be several vendors on hand to sell food and other goods, the Starke County Amateur Radio Club will have information available on their organization while members provide demonstrations and a remote controlled plane club will be flying model airplanes. Enthusiasts of both organizations will be available to answer any questions.

The fireworks show will begin at dusk.

Starke County Fireworks Are Still A Go

Knox Mayor Rick Chambers has confirmed that the Starke County fireworks celebration on Wednesday, July 4 will take place at the Starke County Airport. Get to the airport early so you can enjoy demonstrations from the Starke County Amateur Radio Club as well as a remote control plane club. Food and souvenirs will be available from several vendors. The gate opens at 6 p.m. and the firework show begins at dusk.

Price of Gasoline To Affect Travel Fourth of July Travel Plans

Over forty million Americans will be traveling this Fourth of July holiday.

The price of gasoline will play a factor in travel plans, but thankfully, a year-to-date peak has already been set at an average price of $3.94 per gallon for regular gasoline. The current national average price of regular gasoline is $3.50 per gallon, which is 15 cents less than this time last year.

The average distance traveled by Americans during the Fourth of July holiday weekend is expected to be 723 miles, which is an increase this year.

Police will be out in force to patrol for intoxicated an unrestrained motorists.

Fourth of July Display Still On For Starke County

Good news for Fourth of July fans: there will be fireworks this year at the Starke County Airport. Fireworks Committee Chairperson Linda Berndt said yesterday that the fireworks are still on. To date, almost $5000 has been collected of the nearly $10,000 cost for the display and other expenses. The fireworks display will take place July 4.

Starke County may be luckier than other locations around the nation, as many cities and towns have cut fireworks for a variety of reasons. The celebrations have been primarily snuffed out due to budget cuts for towns and corporate sponsors.

Fundraisers Scheduled to Fund Annual Fireworks Celebrations

Local groups are planning fundraisers to help pay for annual Fourth of July fireworks celebrations.

The Winamac VFW and the Winamac Kiwanis Club are teaming up to raise money for the Fourth of July display at the Winamac Town Park. A fish fry fundraiser will be held on Friday, April 6th from 4:00-7:30 p.m. ET at the Winamac VFW. Marita Grisel, President of the Winamac Kiwanis Club, says that the VFW has returned to their prior supplier for the larger fish filets. The dinner is $8.00 which includes fish, baked beans and coleslaw. All the money raised will help defray the rising cost of the fireworks.
