Two Local Sentences Handed Down In U.S. District Court

George Wedow of Michigan City was recently sentenced in U.S. District Court.

In his plea agreement, Wedow admitted that between February and August 2011, he used two homes in Northern Indiana, including one in Grovertown, to house and train dogs he knew would be used in animal fighting contests. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of Buying, Selling, Delivering or Transporting Animals for Participation in an Animal Fighting Venture.

Wedow Pleads Guilty in U.S. District Court

George Wedow, 32, of Michigan City, Indiana, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in South Bend to felony charges of selling, delivering, possessing, training, receiving and transporting animals for the purpose of having the animals participate in an animal fighting venture. Sentencing has been set for June 14th, 2012. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Wedow was arrested January 13th at his residence at 5589 N. 600 W. in LaPorte County where a large dogfighting operation was found that involved 12 dogs and dogfighting equipment. Police also reportedly found 70 pounds of processed marijuana at the residence. Police also searched a Grovertown residence and found 19 more dogs.

Two Arrested in LaPorte County on Dog Fighting Charges

The LaPorte County Metro Drug Task Force and the DEA have arrested two LaPorte County residents on animal fighting charges.

Police say federal and local arrest warrants were issued and George Wedow and Lisa Daube were arrested on Friday, January 13th at their residence at 5589 N. 600 West in LaPorte County. The investigation revealed a large dog fighting operation involving 12 dogs and dog fighting equipment at that address. 70 pounds of processed marijuana was also confiscated from the residence. Police also searched a Grovertown residence and found 19 more dogs.
